Rick Mack’s Participation in Projecting L.A. 2024

I am deeply honored to have contributed to Projecting L.A. 2024, an impactful cultural event that illuminated the work of 32 distinguished photographers on a grand three-story screen.

The presentation was truly captivating, offering those present a vivid journey through diverse photographic stories. For those who could not attend, I encourage you to experience this momentous occasion by watching the video, which will also be available for viewing at various branches of the Los Angeles Public Library over the next year. These screenings will be complemented by engaging Q&A sessions with the photographers involved.

I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this project and for the support that made such a visionary event possible.

With appreciation,
Richard “Rick Mack” McCloskey

Rick Mack’s Photography: A Key Reference for “Licorice Pizza”

Rick Mack, celebrated for his stunning photography of the 1972 cruising scene on Van Nuys Boulevard, continues to make waves in the world of popular culture. His work, particularly the Van Nuys Blvd 1972 book, served as an essential reference for the directors of the acclaimed movie Licorice Pizza. To authentically capture the spirit of 1970s Southern California, the filmmakers turned to Rick Mack’s vivid documentation of the era as a guide, ensuring that the film’s atmosphere resonated with historical accuracy.

Licorice Pizza (2021) is a coming-of-age drama set in the San Fernando Valley in 1973, exploring the adventures and relationship of a teenage boy and a young woman as they navigate the complexities of life and love.

For enthusiasts of classic car culture and the rich history of Van Nuys Boulevard, Rick Mack’s photography remains an invaluable window into a vibrant era that continues to inspire today.
